Hello, livejournal. [Jul. 3rd, 2008|02:31 am]
So, first time logging into livejournal in almost two years, and as I flip through friends' posts, as frequent as mine, I find myself missing it. Hate to admit.

Is anyone here? I was always uneasy about the social aspect of this place, and I'm glad that a nice chunk of life has happened that did not involve livejournal, but maybe I'll come back. Not to write for the people that I see regularly, but for those that I don't. And myself, I suppose.

Go to your iTunes and fill out the first band that's in each letter... and don't be all like "Mmm, I don't want people knowing I listen to them, so I'ma pick the coolest one".

# -
a - A Taste of Honey
b - B52s
c - Caetano Veloso
d - Daft Punk
e - Eagles Of Death Metal
f - The Fairfield Four
g - The Gap Band
h - Hank Williams
i - İdil Biret
j - Jace Ewing (haha Jace are you there?)
k - Karoly Borvay
l - Labelle
m - M Ward
n - Nancy Sinatra
o - The O'Jays
p - Parliament
q - Quasimoto
r - Rachmaninov
s - Salzburg Mozarteum Camerata Academica
t - Taj Mahal
u - Uilab
v - Van Cliburn
w - The Wallflowers
x -
y - Yann Tiersen
z - The Zombies

So uh most of those came from classical or funk compilation CDs. Though, no lie, A Taste of Honey and The O'Jays are my faaaaaaavorite groups. And you haven't lived til you've heard Salzburg Mozarteum Camerata Academica in concert.

I'm yanking your chain.

music lately [Feb. 22nd, 2006|06:53 pm]
[mood |milky]
[music |Belle & Sebastian - For The Price of a Cup of Tea]

two things, Belle & Sebastian's new album, The Life Pursuit, and the song "Call My Name" by Charlotte Church.

No seriously, don't pass judgment until you've heard the Charlotte Church, she just turned 20, last summer she put out a pop album and i hadn't heard (about) it until yesterday. I was not prepared for that. If you still have the Ave Maria, O Holy Night Charlotte Church stuck in your head, you should really listen to this song.

Oh and The Life Pursuit is good, I think. It's not the old stuff, but it's not Dear Catastrophe Waitress, either. Sometimes they remind me of Lou Reed, Grass Roots, REM, and dare I say the Beatles? I don't know, I'm glad I bought it.

y'all doin good?              good, good, glad to hear it.

HELL LEVEL 1
Raw score: 47%
You're a fallen angel. There's some innocence there, but the sexual dark side has called you and, possibly, is already using you. But you're not evil, just naughty; dirty, but not filthy. You're certainly hellbound, and you'll most likely seek out other imps like yourself to work your wicked will. There might be a moral core inside you, but it's been overtaken by lust.

AVOID: the heavenbound. Your path is downward, and you'll need a guide.

I'm it. [Aug. 28th, 2005|01:47 pm]
[music |Tilly and the Wall - Fell Down the Stairs]

List 3 things that bug you - things that others may find trivial. Then tag 6 of your friends. Only list 3 things because you may/can be tagged again.

1) I'll use a quote: "Yeah, so I think we should only get three honks a month on the car horn, because people honk the car horn too much. Three honks, that's the limit. And then someone cuts you off, you press your horn, nothing happens, you're like, 'Shit, I wish I wouldn'ta seen Ricky on the sidewalk.'" -Mitch Hedberg

2) Slower traffic keep right. It's a very simple concept. I don't like when people pass me on my right before I have a chance to get over, or when people stay in the left lane so that I have to pass them on the right.

3) Reality TV. Except for America's Next Top Model.

Ugh, I'm not tagging anyone.

[mood | good]
[music |the following]

"List five songs that you are currently digging ... it doesn't matter what genre they are from, whether they have words or even if they're any good but they must be songs you're really enjoying right now. Post these instructions, the artist and the song in your blog along with your five songs. Then tag five other people to see what they're listening to."

1. Masterfade - Andrew Bird

2. Your Cover's Blown - Belle & Sebastian

3. Naked As We Came - Iron & Wine

4. One of These Things First - Nick Drake

5. Fantasia for Piano Four Hands in F, D.940 - Schubert

tag? the people i'd tag have better things to do, i'm sure. but just in case. communitylife, leafygranule, spiderbitch, katta_tat_tat, johnwaynelove. it's a little annoying to get tagged, but also a little exciting, yes?

and if you're sad that i didn't tag you, tag your own damn self.

so, this span of time where i haven't updated has been taken up by preparing for the family reunion held at our house on june 11, saturday, and bible school. well all of that's done now, and i'm looking around blinking, trying to figure out what i need to do next. think i'm going to the doctor tomorrow about my hip.

this in-between time feels prime for doing some writing, eh? slime dime mime lime climb.

my mom made my dad watch an episode of oprah in which a world-renowned cardiologist said, this is what you should eat. and what did my dad get out of it? "drink a glass of red wine every day." so he bought some and has been drinking it, and my mom is very anti-alcohol because who knows why, probably something from her childhood, and she just knows that alcoholism is coursing through all our veins, like diabetes and glaucoma and high blood pressure. the genes come from all directions, she says. so her plan backfired a little.

I couldn't remember the word 'glaucoma' so i googled 'eye disease' and found this.

and one more thing. i happened across a blog a while back that provides me with lots of fresh, interesting information, and i've wanted to tell people about it, but i've also wanted to keep it a secret. it just feels like something i should keep to myself. but no more of that! it's boingboing.net, and might i recommend this entry for your enjoyment. another blog i enjoy is Drawn! (www.drawn.ca) and it has gotten me interested in illustration. i've also been pondering the phenomenon of good illustration paired with awful dialogue. Check out unusualcards.com. And another boingboing article.

so i saw in the news that the us postal service has added, on their website, the ability to turn any photo into a greeting card or postcard or whatever, and then mail it to whomever for you. well, I want to get a picture of hell, a picture of something easily recognizable as hell, and in big summery letters, write "Wish you were here!!" so i've been doing google image searches of things like hell, satan, devil, burning, flames. i've found a lot of varied pictures. one of a dead deer with a disorder which gives it monstrous antlers. a few of the twin towers falling down. anyway, i'm going to share with you some of the most notable pictures i've found.
